The World Won’t Listen은 The Smiths가 1987년 2월 23일 Rough Trade Records를 통해 발매한 컴필레이션 앨범이다. 이 앨범은 밴드가 아직 활동을 하고 있을 당시 발매한 3장의 컴필레이션 앨범 중 두 번째 앨범이다. 1985년부터 1987년까지의 싱글과 선택된 B면의 곡을 모은 것이다. 제목은 모리시가 주류 라디오와 음반 구매자가 밴드에 관심을 기울이지 않는다는 생각을 반영한 것이다.
영국 앨범 차트에서 2위까지 올랐고, 차트에 15주 동안 머물렀다. 미국에서는 이 앨범 대신 Louder Than Bombs가 발매되었다. The World Won’t Listen과 Louder Than Bombs가 겹치는 곡은 아래 트랙리스트 중 * 표시가 되어 있는 곡들이다.1 이 중 Stretch Out and Wait는 대체 보컬을 특징으로 하고 You Just Haven’t Earned It Yet, Baby는 약간 다르고 더 긴 믹스 등의 차이가 있다. Louder Than Bombs는 원래 미국 발매만을 목적으로 했지만, 팬들의 요청에 의해 – 아니면 장삿속으로 – Rough Trade는 Louder Than Bombs를 영국에서도 발매하기로 결정했다.
The World Won’t Listen 의 CD슬리브는 슬리브 레이아웃의 카세트 버전을 기반으로 한다. 슬리브는 Morrissey가 Rock ‘N’ Roll Times: The Style and Spirit of the Early Beatles and Their First Fans라는 책에서 Jürgen Vollmer의 사진을 사용하여 디자인했다.2 원래 앨범에는 1960년대 놀이공원 풍경의 더 큰 사진이 실려 있었는데, CD의 대체 버전은 그 일부를 잘라낸 것도 있다. 모리시는 회고록에서 “더 큰 사진의 말도 안 되는 부분을 CD포맷을 위해 무자비할 정도로 잘랐다는 것에 대해 자부심을 느낀다”고 서술했다.3
